Bikes rock thanks to many
What a fun summer it has been. Bikes Rock Homer, an off-shoot of Nature Rocks Homer, started as an idea last fall to get bikes to kids to promote outdoor play and recreation. Since May, Bikes Rock Homer has given out 30 bikes not only to kids, but also to adults, many affected by economic challenges, who rely on their bikes to get back and forth to work. The community has generously responded with more than 50 bikes donated to be repaired or used for parts.
This project would not have been possible if not for the dedicated mechanic work of Lee Post, the drop-off/collection points at The Homer Bookstore and Homer Volunteer Fire Department, the donated time and efforts of the Homer Cycling Club mechanics and support volunteers at the Bike "Fix 'Em" Party on July 1. The following individuals and businesses also have been supportive of Bikes Rock Homer by donating money, services, bike parts, helmets, food and beverages for the "Fix 'Em" Party: Cycle Logical, Dan Westerburg, Homer Saw and Cycle, Latitude 59, Save-U-More, Kachemak Wholesale, Safeway, Nature Rocks Homer, Safe Kids Fair, Ulmer's, Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies, East End Storage and Homer Physical Therapy.
