Obituary


Mrs. Mary Isabelle (McCoy) Bowman, 89, died July 3, 2005, at South Peninsula Hospital Long Term Care.

Memorial services are July 16, 2005, at the Workmen & Steckley Funeral Chapel in Sweet Home, Ore. Mrs. Bowman will be laid to rest next to her husband, David, at the Gilliland Cemetery in Sweet Home.

Mrs. Bowman was born Nov. 11, 1915, to Boyd and Nellie (Osborn) McCoy in Pike County, Ky. In addition to being a great homemaker and gardener, Mary worked several jobs to include dry cleaning, a seamstress and a waitress. During World War II she worked in the aircraft industry and manufactured ammunition at one point. She retired for health reasons in mid 1970s.

Mrs. Bowman really enjoyed visiting the Lick Observatory in the Alum Rock City Park in San Jose, Calif. Mary was a member of the Church of Christ in Sweet Home. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and was an extremely good marksmen. She moved to Homer in 1994 to be closer to her daughter, Iris Douglass. Mary was always learning and after she moved to Homer she had learned how to make ceramics at the Friendship Terrace.

Mrs. Bowman was preceded in death by her husband, David Bowman. She is survived by her daughters, Iris N. (Bro) Douglass of Homer, Audrey Leerea (Bro) Zook of Boardman, Ore., and Ilecia Carol (Bowman) Dodson of Newport, Ore; sister, Beverly Fay (McCoy) Huddleston of Portland, Ore.; granddaughters, Iris Cydentte May of Newport and Jennifer Dodson Boyd of Newberg, Ore.; grandsons, Guy R. Douglass of Newport, Jeffrey Dodson of Sweet Home, Timothy Zook of Powell Butte, Ore., and Mike Zook of Boardman, Ore.; niece, Sandy McLain Koester of Portland; 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary's memory to go towards a new reclining comfort chair at the South Peninsula Hospital, Long Term Care, attention Family Council, 4300 Bartlett St. Homer, AK 99603.

Arrangements were by the Homer Funeral Home.
