Extending service

Workers for Herndon Construction work on a sewer extension running along the south side of Beluga Slough toward Ocean Drive Loop last week. The Ocean Drive Loop Sewer Improvement is expected to be finished by the end of summer, said Homer Public Works Director Carey Meyer. A maintenance path is also being constructed along the line, but the path is closed to the public. Disturbed soil will be hydro seeded when construction is finished.

Meyer said bids will be opened this week for another sewer and water project, the first phase of the Kachemak Drive line, to be run from the Homer Airport to Lampert Lake. Construction on that project will run through the winter. The city will solicit proposals for design and engineering of phase two of that project, from East End Road to about halfway toward Lampert Lake, with construction to start in 2008.
