The National Fastpitch Coach’s Association named Mariners Nyssa Baechler and Kailee Pollack to the All-American High School Team. Baechler was chosen for the First Team, West Region, and Kailee Pollack was on the second team West Region. They are the only Alaska players on the West Team which includes 13 states. Baechler and Jorden Greiner have also been selected as members of the Alaska Reign a 16U travel team that will be representing Alaska in the ASA 16U National Champion-ships in Seattle the first week in August. Twelve girls from Alaska are going with Joe Austin, the Ketchikan coach as head coach and Homer Head Coach Bill Bell will be an assistant coach along with Becky Turi who coaches or has coached and played in college.
Homer golfers compete at State Amateur
Homer residents Mike Houghton, Rene Alvarez, John Gibson and Charles Rehder competed over the weekend in the Alaska State Amateur Championships in Anchorage and Palmer. Houghton carded a 215 over 54 holes to finish second in the sixth flight. Alvarez scored 217, Rehder 233 and Gibson 240.
Gregory Smith from Anchorage won the men’s division by shooting a net 202.
