Oregon woman arrested on custody charges

By Michael Armstrong
Staff Writer

Homer Police on July 11 arrested an Oregon woman on a felony fugitive from justice charge for custodial interference.

Erma J. Cook, 42, had been charged in Benton County, Ore., with first- and second-degree custodial interference. Bail on the warrant was set at $65,000. Police also picked up a 5-year-old boy with Cook. The boy is in the custody of the Alaska Office of Children's Services, said Homer Police Chief Mark Robl.

Police contacted Cook at the Office of Children's Services in Homer after an OCS employee reported she was at the office and had suspicions about her. Robl said he did not know why Cook came to Homer.

Police checked with a Benton County deputy district attorney, who confirmed Cook had an outstanding warrant and the state of Oregon would pursue extradition.
