A gathering to recognize Wes' life is 4-6 p.m. July 24, 2005, at his home on Pioneer Ave in Homer.
Wes was born Dec. 10, 1944, to Wesley Richard Marks Sr. and Virginia M. (Bakken) in Chicago. He attended the Embry- Riddle University in Daytona, Fla. and received a Bachelor of Science degree. Wes served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was part of the evacuation of Saigon during the Vietnam war. He also served as a presidential helicopter pilot from 1970-1973. Wes retired from the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1988. He first came to Alaska in the early 1980s and moved to Homer in 1988. In 1992, he became owner of the Art Shop Gallery with his wife, Karin, in Homer. Wes enjoyed reading and traveling.
Wes was preceded in death by his daughter, Marya Clair Marks, and his father, Wesley R. Marks Sr.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Karin J. Marks of Homer; mother, Virginia Marks of Homer; sister, Linda Fleming of Crowheart, Wyo.; brother, Michael Marks of Oak Harbor, Wash.; father in-law, Russ Johnson of Homer, and brother and sister-in-law, Brad and Diana Johnson of Rocky Mountain, N.C.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Wes' memory to Hospice of Homer, 3953 Bartlett St. Suite 3, Homer, Alaska 99603.
