Memorial services were held Saturday, July 25, 2009 in Anchor Point.
Jorge's 45 year journey began June 21, 1964 in San Patricio County, Texas. He spent his childhood in Dublin, Texas where he was raised by Eulalio and Maria and was the seventh of eight children. After graduating high school he moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where he worked for five years. He then returned to Dublin in search of his life's purpose. It was in meeting and studying the Bible with June Shannon that he found his purpose. June was an older widowed woman that taught Jorge the gospel. On August 25, 2002 Jorge's life was forever changed by the gospel through waters of baptism. In the years following his baptism, the elders at the Graham Street Church of Christ in Stephenville, Texas, recognized Jorge's zeal and love of the lost. They encouraged and supported him in attending Sunset International Bible Institute in Lubbock, Texas. He graduated from preaching school in May of 2007. In the fall of 2007 he heeded the call to evangelize the lost in Alaska. He moved to Anchor Point to work with the local congregation outreaching to the Homer and Anchor Point communities.
Jorge DelBosque
Jorge was a man with a great big heart. He loved children, and although he was never able to have his own, he shared a special relationship with Hannah Rose Blaine. Jorge and Hannah talked and played; holding hands and loving each other as family.
In May of 2009, the doctors told him that his cancer had again returned. Having beaten the disease twice prior, Jorge believed that if it was God's will he would do so for a third time. As the days passed Jorge knew it was time to be with the Lord. He longed to go home and his faith never wavered. Even in the grip of pain, he would proudly proclaim his faith to his doctors and nurses.
If you were lucky enough to meet Jorge, you would have fallen in love with a man who was undeniably genuine. He loved his church family and wanted nothing more than to help people find true family in the family of God. Although we will all miss Jorge, we know that he is and forever will be a part of us all.
Jorge was preceded in death by his father, Eulalio DelBosque; two brothers, James and Javier DelBosque and his beloved nephew, Adulfo Vargas. He is survived by his mother, Maria DelBosque of Dublin, Texas; brothers, Jesse and Joe DelBosque both of Dublin, Texas and Joel DelBosque of Bracketville, Texas; sisters, Janie Martinez of Dublin, Texas and Julia Vargas of Lexington, Ky.; 19 nieces and 9 nephews.
Arrangements were by the Homer Funeral Home.
Jorge touched many lives. He had an intangible ability to see other's needs and work to meet those needs. Upon meeting Jorge, you were immediately drawn to the distinctive nature of Christ that lived in his heart. He would gladly tell all who would listen about his friend and savior, Jesus. Whether on the mission fields of Brazil, working with youth on the basketball courts of Stephenville, or in the rural communities of Alaska, Jorge walked proudly and confidently with his Lord.
