Thursday, Aug. 1

South Peninsula Hospital Service Area Board meets at 6 p.m. in the hospital conference room.

Vessels of Hope sponsors The Thursday Dialogues 7-9 p.m. at the Community Resource Center, 182 East Pioneer Ave. This week's presentation is "Keep Space for Peace," with a video and discussion about weapons and nuclear power in space. Information will also be provided by the Alaska No Nukes group. Call 235-6642.

Monday, Aug. 5

The Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies sponsors a Junior Naturalist Program for 9- to 12-year-olds Monday-Thursday, Aug. 5-8. The four-day science and adventure camp includes two days at the Wynn Nature Center and two days at the Peterson Bay station. The cost is $135 and includes water taxi. Call 235-6667.

Wendy Erd and Peter Kauffman host a showing of a private collection of silks, scarves and quilts from Laos and Vietnam 7-9 p.m. at their home. For details call 235-8891.

Tuesday, Aug. 6

The Homer Town Square Task Force hosts an informal gathering at 6 p.m. in the Bay Realty conference room, 331 East Pioneer Avenue. The task force invites neighbors of the proposed town square property south of Pioneer Avenue and east of Main Street or any other interested people to share their ideas and concerns.

Homer Library Advisory Board meets at 6 p.m. at Homer City Hall.

Wednesday, Aug. 7

Kenai Peninsula Safe Kids Coalition and Glacier Pontiac Buick GMC host a car-seat safety check from 1-3 p.m. at Voznesenka Elementary School.

Homer Planning Commission holds a work session at 6 p.m. followed by a special meeting at 7:30 p.m. at Homer City Hall.

Upcoming Events

Evangelist Wayne Nelson speaks at Family Vacation Bible School 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, and 6:30 p.m. nightly Monday-Wednesday, Aug. 12-14, at Anchor Point Baptist Church. Classes will be provided for ages 5 to adult, with nursery provided for younger children of attending families. Call Pastor Dick Goodwin at 235-1257.

The Kachemak Emergency Service Area Board meets at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, in the borough office at 206 E. Pioneer Ave.
