Islands and Ocean Visitor Center
Kachemak Bay Research Reserve and Fish and Wildlife Service offers free, guided interpretive estuary and beach walks until mid-August. Meet at the visitor center patio for estuary walks, held 1-2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Meet at the Bishop's Beach parking lot for beach walks, held 11 a.m.-noon on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Discovery labs are held 1-3 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays in the visitor center lab. The free, hands-on labs let participants of all ages explore a variety of coastal science topics, which change weekly. Events are free and open to the public.
Artists are invited to enter the "Picture the Heart of Homer: Beluga Slough and Bishop's Beach" photo contest. Minimum 3mb digital images can be emailed to PhotoContest@islandsandocean.org. Entries are due by Sept. 16. Entries will be part of a photo show and event at Islands and Ocean on Sept. 23. Full details at Islands and Ocean or online atwww.islandsandocean.org.
