Miller was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps as an airplane mechanic. His tour of duty included service in the Philippines and occupied Japan. He volunteered for the Red Cross, teaching first aid classes and the Junior Achievers of America. He worked with Homer Electric Association until he retired in 1981. While employed, he was involved in electrifying Alaska villages, and he worked with the CCC bringing electricity to Tennessee and Georgia. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
His family said, “He was a loving and devoted family man, and always had a house full of friends. He was an example of Proverbs 18:24, ‘A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.’”
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, MelvaDene Miller, and two granddaughters, Heather Marie Hatfield and Gayle LeRae Martin.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Lonnie and Charlotte Miller of Frankston, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law Cathy and Lyle Duncan of Frankston, Cynthia and Charles Ates of Dry Prong, La., and Christy Miller of Pineville, La.; sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Scott McCartney of Palm Springs, Calif.; grandchildren Larry and wife Barbara Miller, Pamela Lynn Miller, Shane and wife Terri Duncan, Aron and wife Elizabeth Duncan, Sherry and husband Mike Shields, Michael and wife Sara Ates, David Ates, Jason and wife Erika Hatfield, Dustin Hatfield, Ryan Hatfield and Evan Hatfield; sixteen great-grandchildren, and his loving pets, especially Cinnamon.
Arrangements were by Thompson Funeral Home, Frankston, Texas, and Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Ball, Louisiana.
