• “The Sami: Reindeer People of Alaska,” an exhibit at the Pratt Museum that features the story of how and why reindeer and herders came to Alaska from Scandinavia; opening reception from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 18.
• Guided tour of Halibut Cove artist studios, organized by Bunnell Street Gallery, transportation and refreshments provided, tickets $40 each, space is limited, from noon-6 p.m. Aug. 19. For more information call 235-2662.

Silk painting across the bay
Across the Bay Tent and Breakfast Adventure Company is offering a “Painting on Silk” workshop with Mary Hertert, owner/artist of Color Creek Fabric Art Friday through Sunday. Fee is $330 plus tax. For more information, call 235-3633.
Gala concerts end festival
Kenai Peninsula Orchestra Summer Music Festival comes to a close with two gala concerts. The orchestra will perform at the Renee C. Henderson Auditorium in Kenai at 7:30 p.m. Friday and at Mariner Theatre in Homer at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
The DeVere Quartet will perform at Faith Lutheran Church in Homer at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call 235-7579.
Author presents slide show
Cherry Lyon Jones, local author of “More Than Petticoats: Remarkable Alaska Women,” will present a slide show of remarkable 19th century Alaska women at Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center at 3 p.m. Saturday.
