Many help to feed hungry in area

The Homer Community Food Pantry annual Golf Tournament and silent auction fund-raiser was a rip-roaring success this year, with more participants and silent auction items than we have ever had before.

We are particularly grateful to Hulkia Strydom for his hard work in organizing the Golf Tournament and making it happen. A large number of businesses contributed to this event including Puffin Electric, The Grog Shop, Sourdough Express, Gary Lyon's Gallery, The Homestead, Cafe Cups, Fat Olives, Cosmic Kitchen, Dr. Edward Todd, Kachemak Gearshed, The Sportshed, Salty Dog, Alaska Center for Creative Renewal, True North Kayak Adventures, Coal Point, Alaska USA Bank, 1st National Bank of Alaska, Wells Fargo Bank, Land’s End Resort, El Pescador, Bunnell St. Gallery, Kachemak Wilderness Lodge, Petro Express and Acordia of Alaska Insurance.

Hopefully, we didn’t leave anyone out. The Homer Community Food Pantry board members would like to express their appreciation to all the donors for their generosity. Thank you for participating and supporting us with your monetary donation and/or silent auction items.

Each week we receive numerous donations and are thankful to live in such a generous community. We are grateful to Duncan House for their weekly box of eggs, to the Christian Community Church for their monthly food donation and to the many families and individuals who have given so generously to the Food Pantry. Also, thanks to those who have donated last year’s fish from their freezer and to the gardeners who are sharing their produce.

The Homer Methodist Church, where the Homer Community Food Pantry, resides is being remodeled this summer. We haven’t moved. Our food distribution day is still Mondays from 1 to 3 p.m. We appreciate your patience and understanding while the church is undergoing construction. Please park in the new parking lot on the far side of the church house.

One last reminder. We always need containers, particularly pint and quart size tubs. Also needed are yogurt tubs, Ziploc-type bags and the orange newspaper bags. These may be dropped off anytime by placing items in the large blue tub outside the basement door of the church.

Thanks again for all the kind and generous support.
