Begich, NOAA head to visit here

Alaska Sen. Mark Begich and Dr. Jane Lubchenco, undersecretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, will speak at a Homer Chamber of Commerce luncheon at the Best Western Bidarka on Aug. 23.

Lunch will be served beginning at noon, with Begich and Lubchenco expected to arrive between 12:15-12:30 p.m. A public forum including presentations by Begich and Lubchenco and questions from the public follows lunch and will last until 1:15 p.m.

Lubchenco's stop in Homer is part of her visit to Alaska. While here, she and Begich will tour Kasitska Bay Laboratory, the Kachemak Bay mariculture center on the Spit and the Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center.

Cost for lunch is $12 for chamber and non-chamber members.
