August is full month with state fairs, start of school

It might seem that the Kenai Peninsula is starting to wind down, but August is a busy month. School is only 11 days out, the Kenai Peninsula State Fair in Ninilchik is next weekend,with the fair in Palmer the following weekend. This is definitely a sign fall is just around the corner. I can't be the only one who is still looking for more weeks of summer. Uffda.

Nevertheless, the views we have driving or walking are spectacular. The fireweed is in full bloom and the sun gives us a great opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors.

For those of you planning a trip north, I wish you safe driving, there are just too many people in a hurry to go nowhere. It is sad to hear how many lives that roadway has taken. So, eyes wide open in your travels.

Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce

I spoke with Cheryl at the chamber and she informed me that she ordered this grand weather, so thank you, Cheryl, for the fabulous weather. The silvers are in and there is some great fishing to be had.

Anchor Point Senior Center

Tonight's dinner will be meatloaf. The salad bar is open at 5:30 p.m., and dinner is served at 6 p.m. Bingo starts at 7 p.m. Fridays. The center's community breakfast will be from 9 a.m.-noon Sunday. The center also will have a Fisherman's Memorial Fish Fry from 4-8 p.m. Aug. 22.

VFW Post 10221

Steak Night is from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, followed by "Damit Man Comedy Hour" at 8:30. After you have laughed your stomach away, it's time for Karaoke with Tom.

The VFW's monthly fish fry is from 4-6 p.m. Aug. 30. Monday Night Tacos are from 5-7 p.m.
