Seniors invited on Kachemak Bay trip

By McKibben Jackinsky
Staff writer

What's better than an evening on Kachemak Bay?

Homer's senior citizen population, anyone 60 and older, is invited to enjoy just that Aug. 25, when Rainbow Tours and Friendship Center, Homer Senior Center's adult day services, join forces to offer free of charge an evening leisurely touring Gull Island aboard the M/V Rainbow Connection.

The 65-foot vessel leaves Homer Harbor at 6 p.m. from Ramp 2, near the Harbormaster's Office.

"The tour takes about an hour and a half," said Cassy Quinlan, officer manager for Rainbow Tours.

The crew, with either Capt. Monica or Capt. Kirt at the helm, stands ready to provide assistance for individuals needing an extra hand. A maximum of two assistants per walker or wheelchair will be accommodated; assistants may be younger than 60.

Participants must provide their own transportation to and from the boat, and are reminded to dress for the weather.

The vessel has a roomy cabin with benches and lots of windows, offering warmth and protection from whatever weather conditions that might occur.

Anyone interested is asked to contact Friendship Center, 235-2295, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
