It was as if the city of Homer's Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission, organizer of the city's "Parks Day Celebration," had an inside track on Saturday's weather.

With the thermometer pushing above 60 and blue sky above, kids of all ages spent the day enjoying some outdoor games, food and the pleasure of each other's company at Karen Hornaday Park.

Reece Cowan demonstrates the fine art of disc golf. Sometimes called "frisbee golf," the goal is to throw a flying disc into a basket or target. According to the Professional Disc Golf Association, the player who traverses a course from beginning to end with the fewest number of throws of the disc is the winner.

Bumppo Bremicker keeps the energy fueled with grilled hot dogs.

Homer's parks are maintained by the city's Parks and Recreation Division of Public Works. In total, there are 18 parts and trails, four playfields and two campgrouds.
