• Day job: Landfield has been a payment center specialist at GCI for eight and a half years. He said he doesn’t work in a field related to his degree, but his education is something he uses every day.
• How long in theater: Landfield’s first play was at Christmas time in 1982.
“It’s all Dick Sanders’ fault,” he said. Sanders did some acting with Pier One and one day, while the two guys were hanging out at the radio station, Sanders suggested they both audition for an upcoming play. Landfield said they auditioned, were cast and that it was fun.
• Why theater: “It gives us an opportunity to be someone else, which I think is healthy,” said Landfield. He describes acting as similar to learning another language or how to play a musical instrument. On occasion people recognize Landfield as a certain character from a play.
“Franco Venuti particularly liked my character in ‘Lend Me a Tenor,’” he said, adding that Venuti always recalls him by that character’s name.
Landfield said he would highly recommend theater to anyone who is interested.
“Stage fright or not, it doesn’t kill you. It’s great fun,” he said.
• Recent theater: “King Lear” in January was the last show Landfield was in. This summer Landfield said that he was too busy with work to commit to a play.
• Hobbies: Landfield enjoys reading, hanging out with his girlfriend and traveling to visit his parents.
• Education: Landfield received a bachelor’s degree in psychology and philosophy from the College of William and Mary.
