Tennis association sponsors tournament

Kodiak tennis players will be in Homer Saturday for a tournament with the local tennis association. Homer tennis players and spectators are encouraged to participate in the tournament, which gets going at 9:30 a.m. at the Homer High School courts. For more information, call 235-2443.

Cycling club offers scavenger hunt Sunday

A scavenger hunt by bicycle begins at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Bishop's Beach Pavilion. All are welcome to participate in the Homer Cycling Club event. Bring a digital camera to document findings. Judging begins when the hunt ends at 6:30 p.m. and prizes will be given for "best of" categories. Helmets are mandatory. For more information, contact homercyclingclub@gmail.com.

Run a 5-k for children's tumor foundation

The K-Bay 5K For Leo will start at 5 p.m. Aug. 26 at Homer High School and finish at the Kachemak City Recreation Center. Donations for entering the 5-kilometer run support the Children's Tumor Foundation. Festival to build, certify sea kayaking skills

The 2011 British Sea Kayak Festival will be Sept. 2-5 in Halibut Cove. The festival features kayak demos, skills training and rescue clinics, navigation and trip planning workshops, a night paddle, beach camping and ACA Coastal Kayak levels 2 and 3 skills assessments. All kayaking equipment can be provided; save money by bringing your own gear. Triathlon benefits Mariner aquatics

The annual Homer High School "Ironman" triathlon, consisting of a 1,000-yard swim, 15-mile bike and 5-mile run, will be Sept. 3, beginning at 8 a.m. at the Kate Kuhns Aquatic Center. Registration deadline is Aug. 26. The entry fee is $50 per person or $100 per team of three. Entry forms are available at the pool and online at www.runningintheusa.com.
