Staffing: Homer Middle School has a full-time principal, 10 teachers, one specialist (for art, library and music), two special education teachers and 1.32 special education aide positions, a half-time nurse, 1.5 secretary positions and 2.5 custodian positions. Teachers at the school have a combined average of about 13.5 years experience with the district.
Cocurricular: Homer Middle School has paid coaches for cross-country running, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls basketball, wrestling, volleyball, Nordic skiing and track and field. Stipend-receiving staff members also run music and forensics activities, as well as an intramural sports program. The school mascot is the Huskies.
Demographics: Homer Middle has a 91 percent Caucasian student population, with ethnicities such as African-American (1 percent), Hispanic (2 percent), Asian-Pacific Islander (2 percent) and Alaska Native (4 percent) represented. About 33 percent of the school's students come from economically disadvantaged homes, and 16 percent of students experience disabilities.
