In court documents, Homer Police allege that during the search, the jail officer saw a piece of tape stuck to the back of the defendant's underwear and discovered a can of Copenhagen chew.
Police allege the defendant, William Watson, 20, of Atlanta, told them he has a chew problem.
Watson was charged with second-degree promoting contraband for bringing a prohibited item intothe jail.
Homer Police at about 11:20 p.m. Aug. 11 received a "report every drunk driver immediately" complaint of a driver on Kachemak Drive.
Around the same time, police and the Homer Volunteer Fire Department received a report of a vehicle on fire in the ditch along Kachemak Drive near East End Road. Police and firefighters responded. In court documents, police allege they contacted three people walking away from the fire.
They allege Christopher D. Kodger, 37, said he was the driver and was going to get help to pull the vehicle out of the ditch.
Police allege Kodger failed field-sobriety tests and had a breath-alcohol level of .218.
He was alleged to have a suspended driver's license out of Oregon. Police arrested Kodger for driving under the influence and driving while license suspended.
Firefighters responded to the vehicle fire and put it out.
