After a two-year hiatus, the Homer Council on the Arts Street Faire returns, with a day full of art, craft and other demonstrations; food, art and nonprofit organization booths, and music from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday on Hazel Avenue next to the Homer Public Library. Started in 1987 and first held on Heath Street, in recent years the Street Faire had been at Homer High School. It's now back on the street. In keeping with the theme of keeping Homer sustainable, many of the booths feature locally-made products, like recycled quilts and fashions. Because of limited parking, organizer Cindy Nelson encouraged visitors to walk, ride bicycles or carpool to the Street Faire. Parking is available at Homer City Hall and Kachemak Bay Campus on Heath Street. Some on-street parking is at Poopdeck Street. Hazel Avenue closes at 10 a.m. Saturday for vendor set-up. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own reusable bags and to use recycling bins. Please leave pets at home. Michael Armstrong can be reached at michael.armstrong.@homernews.com.
