A Homer woman was shot while hunting last Friday morning on Kalgin Island. Hannah R. Frye, 18, was declared dead at Providence Alaska Medical Center, Anchorage, after being flown there by an Alaska Air National Guard helicopter medical team. Kalgin Island is a popular moose hunting area about 25 miles west of Kenai in upper Cook Inlet. Frye is the daughter of Cameron and Rebecca Frye of Homer. She had been hunting with two other people nearby on the island, Alaska State Troopers said in a release last week. Troopers have not yet released the names of other people involved or details of the shooting pending completion of an investigation. Witnesses have been contacted. The Fryes are members of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Homer. Buzz Brown, a Jehovah's Witness minister, met with the congregation on Saturday to inform them of the tragedy. "There's a lot of support going on," Brown said. Of the shooting, Brown said, "It was a pure accident that could happen to anybody anywhere." Services for Frye have been tentatively scheduled for Sept. 5 in Homer at a time and place to be announced. Michael Armstrong can be reached at michael.armstrong@homernews.com.
