Activities scheduled for “Tamamta Katurlluta - A Gathering of Native Tradition 2006,” sponsored by the Pratt Museum, Native communities and Bunnell Street Gallery, on Saturday include:
• 10 a.m. — Vessel landing ceremony on beach behind Pier One Theatre.
• Noon — Community potluck at museum.
• Afternoon — Native Youth Olympian demonstrations; harbor seal biosampling, at museum.
• 7 p.m. — Evening of dance and culture, featuring Savoonga drummers, Mariner Theatre.
Tribal or religious leaders wanting to participate in the vessel landing and beach ceremony should call Sarah Folz, 235-8635. Diners at the community potluck are asked to bring foods representing their cultural backgrounds.
Tickets on sale
Ladysmith Black Mambazo tickets are now on sale at Homer Council on the Arts and the Homer Bookstore. This grammy-award winning group from South Africa will perform at the Mariner Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 13. Ticket prices are $20 for youth, $35 for members and $45 for non-members. This show is recommended for children 7 and up.
Call for art
Artwork donations are requested for the Pratt Museum’s RITZ 2006 Art & Adventure Auction, which will take place during this year’s “License to Ritz” gala, Nov. 4. Art will be previewed at the museum from Oct. 6-Nov. 3. Live and silent auctions will take place on the night of the event. Donated artwork needs to be at the museum by 4 p.m. Sept. 22 to guarantee inclusion in the exhibition and catalog. Only one work per artist will be accepted. Homer film at Anchorage museum
“Broken Wing ... Broken Promise,” a film examining the feeding of bald eagles on the Homer Spit and exploring the connection between Alaska Natives and the bald eagle, and the need for eagle protection, will be presented at the Anchorage Museum at 6 p.m. Sept. 7. The film was produced by Alaska Eagle Watch in Homer. A discussion by the film’s narrator, Anchorage resident Russ Osterhaus, follows the film. Admission is free.
