The first of four children, Earl was born in Missouri in 1940. Soon after the United States entry into World War II, his parents moved to Richmond, Calif., where his father worked in the Kaiser shipyards.
After the war, the young family moved south, settling in Anaheim, Calif., where Earl attended public schools. Soon after high school, Earl took an entry-level job at the General Motors Delco Battery Plant in Anaheim, working his way up in a series of assignments of increasing scope and responsibility until his retirement in 1989.
Earl came to Alaska with his wife, Pam, in 1994, and settled in Homer, a place he called “paradise.” When asked to summarize his view of life, Earl responded with six words, “Life is good; life is precious.”
Earl was preceded in death by his father, Lowy Breckenridge. He is survived by his beloved wife, Pam; his mother, Bernice; his daughter, Cari; as well as step-daughters, Toni and Dana; step-sons, Mike and Jeff; 11 grandchildren; sisters, Carole and Evelyn; brother, Joseph; as well as dozens of close friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to be made to the Earl Breckenridge Memorial Fund, C/O 88 Sterling Hwy. Homer, AK 99603. The fund will be used to benefit Hospice of Homer as well as an uninsured resident of Homer in serious need of medical treatment.

Memorial services celebrating Earl’s love of life, his sense of humor, kindness and his generosity are at 4 p.m., Sept. 7, 2006, at the parsonage of the Glacier View Baptist Church in Homer.
