Texas is the largest among the contiguous 48 states, but can't hold a candle to Alaska in sheer land mass. Likewise, a Texas man, Scott Darlow of Houston, brought in a 290-pound halibut on Sunday, for now the largest fish taken during August. But Darlow's fish isn't even in the same zip code as Alaskan Clayton McDowell's 341-pounder, which still leads all derby fish. Meanwhile, a pair of anglers -- Colleen Fowler of Homer and Brendan Desjardin of Anchorage -- caught tagged fish worth $500. Derby tickets are $10 and can be found at many Homer businesses.
