We would like to thank the following individuals and organizations in the community who supported our program: Alan and Mindy Parks of Ridgetop Inn and Sandy Cronland and Billy Day of Twin Creeks Trailhead Lodge kindly hosted our group the entire week; Flo and Peter Larson of the Chocolate Mousse and Kyra Neil hosted our out-of-town speakers; Kachemak Bay Conservation Society, Fish and Game, Cook Inlet Keeper, Kachemak Heritage Land Trust, Sierra Club and the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies shared career options with teens at our career fair; Dale Banks provided biodegradable plates/utensils and Subway donated sandwiches.
We enjoyed educational field trips on climate change and renewable energy thanks to Ed Berg, Mike Matz, Scott Simmons, Joe Whitteberry, Marla McPherson and the Dean/Harrison family.
Staff at St. Augustine Tours introduced our youth to the magic of sea kayaking. The Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center generously opened their doors for our presentation Aug. 13 with Fran Ulmer (thanks to Mayor Jim Hornaday for joining us), and we were blown away by the outpouring of support from Homer community members at this event.
Special thanks to Homer chapter (HAYEA) members and advisers Whitney Cushing, Katie Gavenus, Kathryn McCarron, Elise Marshall, Dylan Weiser, Nina Faust, Willy Dunne, Gillian Beran-Maryot, Mackenzie Callis, Leslie Whip and Emily Kizzia for their local leadership and contributions (including the delicious halibut and salmon).
The Summer Get Together would not have been possible without the generous contributions of time, finances, talent and other resources provided by the Homer community.
On behalf of the entire AYEA program, thank you.
