Impressions, monoprints by Garry Kaulitz 5-7 p.m., First Friday Opening Reception; 6 p.m., artists talk
In 2008 and 2009, artist Garry Kaulitz attended the Burning Man Project, an annual gathering of 40,000 in the Black Rock desert in Nevada. "This show, 'Impressions,' represents the period of incubation as information is sorted and incorporated into my personal unconscious," Kaulitz writes. "I open doors, try new directions; learn to trust some new perceptions. The works are monotypes and monoprints from collagraph plates. Created in bursts of energy, each overlaying layer of texture, gesture, or image tries to capture the surreal and elusive impression of the legacy of dust and dreams dancing with the stars that is Burning Man."
