STUDENT NEWS Cadet Levi M. Catlin of Homer was one of 156 graduates from the Alaska Military Youth Academy after a five and a half monoth residental phase of the AMYA Challenge program that focused on academics, military style discipline and training, and community service. Graduation was Aug. 27 at the Atwood Concert Hall of thoe Performing Arts Center in Anchorage. Andrew Faulkner of Homer was named to the dean's list for academic excellence for the spring 2010 semester at The John Hopkins University. To be selected, a student must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale in a program of at least 14 credits with at least 12 graded credits. Faulkner is the son of Jon and Sara Faulkner and attended Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass. He is majoring in civil engineering and will graduate in May 2011. William Jasper completed his freshman year at Southern Oregon University in Ashland. He was on the dean's list all three quarters of this past academic school year. Melissa Lettis of Anchor Point was awarded a scholarship grant for her leadership, academic excellence and community involvement by the Former Agents of the FBI Foundation. The foundation is the philanthropic arm of the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI Inc. located in Dumfries, Va. Melissa attends the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Wash., and qualifies for the scholarship as the granddaughter of former Special Agent Cleon Glaze.
