DUI patrol set for this weekend

As part of a U.S. effort targeting drunk drivers Labor Day weekend, Alaska State Troopers and the Alaska Bureau of Highway Patrol participate in the 2009 Nationwide DUI Crack Down. Using federal dollars funneled through the Alaska Office of Highway Safety, more troopers will work to get drunk drivers off the streets. The Alaska Bureau of Highway Patrol will have all three of its units patrolling throughout the state, along with local troopers.

The legal limit for driving under the influence is a blood alcohol level of .08 or higher, but the law also applies to drivers under the influence of prescription drugs or controlled substances. Some drivers can be impaired at lower levels.

Troopers urge anyone suspecting a person is driving drunk, aggressively or unsafely to make a "report every dangerous driver immediately" complaint by calling 911.
