Staff Writer

Homer resident Glyn Bindon, 66, also of Michigan, was killed when the Cessna 206 he was piloting crashed into Gunsite Mountain, near Mile 80 of the Glenn Highway. The accident occurred Tuesday, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Alaska State Troopers said.

The plane crashed at the 3,700-foot level on the southeast side of the mountain with the pilot and two passengers onboard.

Kenai Flight Service notified relatives of the pilot when he became overdue on his flight plan. Rescue Command Center was notified by the family. Family members searching by personal aircraft found the wreckage at approximately 2,100. Troopers were notified and arranged for a Blackhawk helicopter and a C-130 aircraft to respond. Family friends with aircraft and an airstrip nearby were contacted and overflew the scene while an R44 helicopter belonging to yet another family friend responded from Merrill Field.

A private pilot landed at the crash site during hours of darkness, confirmed at least two fatalities and confirmed the tail number of the aircraft as the plane in question.

Rescuers landed and confirmed three fatalities. Alaska State Trooper Helo 1, with two troopers and an National Transportation Safety Board investigator, has tried and failed repeatedly to reach the crash site. Once recovered, the victims will be transported to Anchorage.Identification of the two passengers is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

A Homer dentist on Aug. 14 reported to Homer Police that a patient assaulted him at his office. According to the court criminal complaint, a 31-year-old man is alleged to have become angry with his dentist over the level of dental care he received. The man "got up into" the dentist's face and threatened him, placing the dentist in fear the he would be struck. The defendant told police he wanted to hit the dentist, but restrained himself in hopes the dentist would hit him first.

Police also allege the man kicked the front door of the dentist's office and knocked glass loose, causing about $195 in damages. When asked about the damaged door by police, the man said he "wanted to plead the fifth." Police arrested Randolph Germain for fourth-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal mischief.

Homer Police Officer Jason Crockett filed a report alleging Berton Kvasnikoff, 25, violated the conditions of his release after reading in the newspaper about a boat accident Kvasnikoff was involved in last month. In court documents, police allege that under the conditions of his release on another crime, Kvasnikoff was to be under 24-hour supervision by a third-party custodian. Crockett read in the paper that Kvasnikoff had been on a boat with two other people who were not his custodian. Crockett interviewed the custodian, and she admitted that she was not on the boat with the defendant. Police filed charges of violating the condition of release against Kvasnikoff.
