Winners get ATV, tent in Senior Center raffle — just in time for hunting season

Despite the rain, I hope you enjoyed the long Labor Day weekend. It is definitely frightening to think winter is around the corner. I wonder what type of winter we are in store for. Maybe we will get lucky and have one of those late summers.

Have you visited an old friend lately? This question comes to you due to an old friend coming to visit the Anchor Point area to say hello. This particular person is an older gentleman that gave me a reality check. There are many elders that can’t get out of their homes due to health reasons and rarely get visitors. I am now stopping once a week to visit with him.

If you know of any elderly who need a visit, please take time out of your busy schedules to stop and say hello.

Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce

The chamber’s upcoming trade show is from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 14. For more information, call the chamber at 235-2600.

The chamber’s birthday party will begin at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Anchor River Inn.

Anchor Point Senior Center

The center’s hours are 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tonight’s dinner will be chicken baked steak. Dinner is served at 6 p.m. Cost is $5 for members and $7 for nonmembers.

The Aug. 24 raffle winners are Mike Ast, who won the four-wheeler as first prize; Sharon Hopkins, a rifle, second prize; Bob Picard, a tent, third prize; and K. Sullivan, an outdoor cooker, fourth prize. Congrats to all. Bingo is every Friday starting at 7 p.m. On Sept. 17, breakfast will be served from 9 a.m. until noon.

Anchor Point Disaster Response Program

The main focus of the program in Anchor Point is to get 72-hour disaster buckets out to those who need them most. In addition, the program is designed to raise awareness so everyone can be prepared for a disaster.

Items will be collected throughout September and kits will be assembled the second week of October as an object lesson for the preparedness unit of the Community Emergency Response Team class.

If your organization or business would like to get on board, please call Rachel at 235-7786 or Glenda Landua at 1-800-478-4441 ext. 2098. Trustworthy Hardware in Soldotna will sell preparedness items at wholesale cost.

VFW Post 10221

There was a nice crowd for the Labor Day barbecue.

Vietnam Veterans of America taco and stuff night is Saturday, starting at 6 p.m. Meeting day is Sunday.

What will you do Sept. 11? Everyone is invited to join the America Supports You Freedom Walk on Monday beginning at the WKFL Memorial at 2 p.m.

All participants are asked to be there by 1:45 p.m. so the walk can start promptly at 2 p.m.

Steak night is Sept. 16 from 6-8 p.m. followed by karaoke. The monthly fish fry will be Sept. 24 from 4-6 p.m. There is always plenty of good food, so members and guests are invited to stop by.
