Runners shine in only home meet

Thundershowers threatened the beginning of the Mariners’ first and only home cross country running meet on Friday, but the dark clouds passed, and the Mariner runners recorded some of their best times of the season.

As a team, the boys finished fourth out of seven teams while the girls finished third out of four.

Mariner Garrett Hoanin broke into the top 10 with his time of 17 minutes and 28 seconds on the 5-kilometer course at Homer High School. Tyler Haas, Ben Daigle and Patrick Schneider all finished in the top 25.

For the girls, Maggie McCarron finished 15th with a time of 21:13. Katie Arsenault, Frances Bursch, Brittney Wyatt, Teal Laukitis, Lindsey Henkelman, and Claire Laukitis all finished in the top 25.
