Share the garden, offer some hope

This week my wife and I finally took action on a long delayed intention. We took some fresh produce from our garden to the Homer Community Food Pantry distribution center at the Methodist Church. It was quite an eye opener. Many erstwhile volunteers were busily processing boxes of prepared products and leftover market produce gone beyond its time. Amongst these offerings were some bags of home garden produce that radiated freshness and health.

This time of year, many Homer gardeners have an excess of garden bounty. We encourage you to share that harvest with those who desperately need it. Fill up a bag or box with any kind of produce and drop it off at the food pantry, Monday morning between 9 a.m. and noon. You don't have to talk to anyone or wait in line. Just hand over the bag and walk back to your car. This simple act will brighten the day of many who only need some hope, and a helping hand.
