Winners of the day's events were as follows:
Doubles: 1st Yanosh and Charlie Rehder 2nd Danilee Stapel and Chuck Johnson 3rd Andre Drake and Terri Rude
Danilee Stapel tried to "ring in" a first place trophy to pack off to her first year of college but missed it by a shoe.
Singles: 1st Andre Drake 2nd Chuck Johnson 3rd Tony Landrus
It seems Andre Drake's chances of taking first place improve if he doesn't practice. Great food, lots of laughs and competitive pitching were enjoyed by all. A big thank you from the Johnsons to all who participated.

Sept. 27 is Gold Star Mothers Day. The name of the Gold Star Mothers was derived from the custom of military families who put a service flag near their front window. The flag featured a star for each family member serving in their country -- living members were denoted in blue, but gold stars honored family members who were killed while in duty. In 1918 President Woodrow Wilson approved the wearing of black arm bands bearing a gilt star by those who had a family member who died in the military service to the United States. This distinguished them from the blue stars, representing a family member presently serving in the armed forces. American Gold Star Mothers Inc. was incorporated in 1929, obtaining a federal charter from Congress. It began with 25 mothers living in the Washington, D. C., area and soon expanded to include affiliated groups throughout the nation. On June 23, 1936, a joint congressional resolution designated the last Sunday in September as Gold Star Mothers Day, a holiday that has been observed each year by a presidential proclamation.
If you are a Gold Star Mother or know of a Gold Star Mother, please call Jennifer at 235-2556.
The 21st Annual Stariski Horseshoe Tournament was held Aug. 9 at the home of Chuck and Rosie Johnson. The summer's "orb of delights" presented the 26 participants, and other family and friends, a warm day of sunshine. A visit by Sarah Jorgensen's inflatable friend "Butch" added a new level of competition to the field, although in the end Butch's confidence was completely "deflated." He should have received the "red horseshoe" award.
