Nothing outweighs derby leader Tom Youngblood's 354.6-pound halibut caught way back on June 26 with Capt. Ron Hurley aboard the Sweet T of In-2-Fishin Charters.
That's good news for Youngblood, who knows all too well that things could still change.
For the month of September, the following fish are leading the pack:
First place: 186.4-pound halibut caught Sept. 5 by Anthony Sandoval of Anchorage with Ocean Hunter Charters Capt. Keith Kalke aboard the Ocean Hunter;
Second place: 117.8-pound halibut caught Sept. 6 by Aksel Buholm of Anchorage with Bob's Trophy Charters Capt. Josh Brooks aboard the Huntress;
Third place: 111.6-pound halibut caught Sept. 4 by Steven Tucker of Wrenshall, Minn., with Crystal Sea Charters Capt. Steve Button aboard the Donna Mae;
Fourth place: 110.6-pound halibut caught Sept. 5 by Scott Shalek of Ringwood, Ill., with Manns Charter Service Capt. Mike Manns aboard the Arctic Addiction.
Lead lady angler for the month is Patricia Underwood of Anchorage, who caught a 65-pound halibut Sept. 6 with Falcon Charters Capt. Tony Arsenault aboard the Falcon.
The "Catch a Lefty" prize goes to Yako "Jack" Boru of Fosston, Minn., who hooked into the derby's only left-handed halibut Aug. 29 with Capt. B's Alaskan C's Adventures, Capt. Bryan Bondioli aboard the Ashtikan.
No tagged fish have been caught yet this month, but a total of 10 have been caught during the derby.
Remember: Homer has a two-halibut limit per day, per person and derby tickets must be purchased prior to fishing.
