Head coach Beth Trowbridge said she felt the match was well-played and that her team showed good intensity on the floor.
"We were able to keep Nikiski from running their offense by serving tough and keeping the ball deep," Trowbridge said. "Nikiski seemed to have trouble passing, which really helped us on defense."
Sarah Manalisay led Homer with eight kills, six aces, four assists and 12 digs. Candi Fidino added eight kills of her own, along with three aces, eight digs and three block assists.
Trowbridge said that she was especially pleased with the level of play from Chantrelle Cousins, who picked up four kills, two aces, three assists and two digs.
The Mariner squad heads north to face Houston tomorrow and on to Wasilla on Saturday.
