The team competed at the Anchorage Christian Schools Invitation on Friday and then ran in the Adidas/Lynx Invitational less than 24 hours later at Dimond High School.
Head Running Coach Paul Gutzler said he wanted the kids to focus on the ACS race, because it was against regional opponents. But he said he was impressed in both events.
“The team is just about as healthy as they have been all season and we are looking forward to boroughs next weekend in Seward,” he said.
At the ACS, the Homer boys team finished 8th out of 16 teams and was led by Garrett Hoanin, who finished 13th with a time of 17 minutes, 25 seconds.
The girls team finished third and was led by the 20th place run of Frannie Bursch who finished in 21:54.
On Saturday at Dimond, the boys team finished 22nd out of 32 teams and the girls finished 17th.
“It was by far the biggest race of the season, close to 1,000 athletes,” Gutzler said of the Dimond meet. “The kids did not appear to be intimidated at all. Although (they raced) on back to back days some kids had times close to their times at ACS on a much more difficult course.”
