Huskies up and running

The Homer Middle School cross country running team kicked off the season with an invitational meet at Skyview last Friday, running a 1.7-mile course with competitors from Seward, Soldotna, Kenai, Aurora Borealis, Nikiski and Nikolaevsk.

"All runners performed exceptionally," HMS Cross Country Running Coach Jennifer Booz wrote in an email.

Cody Macy took third place in the boys race with a time of 11 minutes, 6 seconds.

In the girls race, Aurora Waclawski paced the Huskies with a second-place finish in 12:05. Megan Pitzman took fourth in 12:20; Lauren Evarts took sixth in 12:43; Ziza Shemet-Pitcher took eighth in 12:52; Tori Ellison took ninth in 12:55; and Haley Knott took tenth.

The Huskies race again Friday at Kenai Middle School.
