Troopers bag illegal hunter
A West Virginia man faces 17 hunting violations in Alaska courts relating to charges that he illegally killed three moose and two caribou last year.

Alaska State Troopers arrested Brad Short, 22, at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport after being tipped off by an anonymous source that Short was returning to Alaska for a hunting trip.

"We suspect he was planning to go to Fairbanks and the North Slope," said Sgt. Scott Quist of the state Division of Fish and Wildlife Protection.

Short spent about 18 months in the military stationed in Alaska, and got out about six months ago.

The charges stem from several incidents, one involving a moose found dead near downtown Fairbanks last October.

Police circulated a flyer showing Short's photo and a photo of the moose. "It was because of that poster that we were able to get a break," said Quist.
