'Wilderness Warrior' author visits
Douglas Brinkley, author of "Wilderness Warrior: Theodore Roosevelt and the Crusade for America," speaks at 7 p.m. Oct. 3 at Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center for a Centennial Celebration honoring the 100th anniversary of the Alaska Maritime and Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuges. Brinkley is an authority on Theodore Roosevelt's creation of the refuge system and contributions to conservation history. Five units of the Alaska Maritime and the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuges were designated by Roosevelt in 1909 as the first refuges in Alaska.
A professor at Rice University, Brinkley is the author of dozens of books, six of which have been selected as New York Times Notable Books of the Year. The Chicago Tribune has dubbed him "America's new past master."
Books will be available for sale and signing after the event.
