Library kicks off capital campaign
The Homer Library has identified Sept. 20 to Oct. 20 as a pledge drive month. The new library project is working to raise $1.2 million needed to match a three-to-one $400,000 grant that will be submitted to the National Endowment for the Humanities in November.

Three events are planned for Library Week, today through Sept. 27. Today and Saturday will be junior and senior spelling bees at the Homer Theatre at 5 p.m. It is $200 to register for four person teams. Admission is $7.

The library also will sponsor a book discussion and signing with Dana Stabenow, the author of the Kate Shugak series who grew up in Seldovia. She will speak about her book, "Low Tides and Libraries," an ode to community libraries. Stabenow will donate a portion of the proceeds from the evening's book sales to the project. Admission is free.
