Murkowski announces grant
U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski this week announced that funding from a $500,000 National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration grant to The Nature Conservancy will be used in Alaska to restore important salmon habitat destroyed by last fall's severe flooding on the Kenai Peninsula.

The Alaska portion of the grant will be used to restore Silver Salmon Creek, a tributary to Deep Creek, a popular sportfishing stream on the Kenai Peninsula. Silver Salmon Creek provides critical spawning and rearing habitat for king and silver salmon.

"Silver Salmon Creek is a crucial stream for salmon runs on the Kenai. This grant will help to restore habitat so the creek can resume providing kings and silvers for the good of Kenai fishermen and for the betterment of the Kenai's economy that is so dependent on the sportfishing industry," said Murkowski.
