How long singing: “I’ve always sung,” said Taylor, whose first performance was at the Jubilee when she was 6. She sang Sarah Mclaughlin’s “When Somebody Loves Me.”
Why singing: “I like watching people smile ... and I just love music,” she said. “I want to entertain.”
Performing: When she first performed on stage, Taylor said she was “really, really nervous.” But when she got on stage it was very exciting. People are surprised when they hear her sing because she is so young, she said.
Taylor recently sang the National Anthem at the 2006 Annual Alaska Association of Realtors Convention at Land’s End.
“I was kinda nervous ’cause there were a few hundred people there,” she said. Usually, when she performs at the Mariner Theatre, Taylor said the lights are pointing at the stage, so she can’t see the audience. But at Land’s End, she could see everyone. “They were like — right in front of me,” she said.
Taylor sometimes sings duets with her mom at church and sometimes, when she’s practicing, she said her 7-year-old brother who plays drums keeps the beat for her.
“He’s really, really good,” she said.
Favorite music: “Anything but elevator music,” said Taylor. Right now Mariah Carey is one of her favorites.
“I like singing fast songs,” she said. “I also like to belt out songs.”
Other hobbies: Taylor is a Pop Warner football cheerleader. “I’m a big football fan,” she said. “And I like watching football.” Taylor also is involved with dance, gymnastics and basketball. When she is in high school, Taylor said she doesn’t want to be a cheerleader, because she wants to play basketball.
Future plans: “I want to be a singer,” she said. Taylor has an upcoming audition with a talent scout from Georgia and is preparing for the next Jubilee.
