Laurence Edward Stanley

Laurence Stanley
Longtime Seldovia resident, Mr. Laurence Edward “Larry” Stanley, 54, left this life Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at his home in Seldovia.

A celebration of Larry’s life was Sept. 18, 2005, at the Linwood Lounge, Seldovia.

Larry was born Aug. 5, 1951, to Warren and Clare Stanley in Renton, Wash. He spent his early years in Seattle attending St. Edwards Grade School, Sharples Junior High School and Franklin High School. Larry was always an adventuresome individual so it only seemed natural that he would venture north to the Last Frontier and make Seldovia, Alaska his home.

Larry, like many Seldovians, made fishing his career, Las Vegas his “breakout” destination and the great Alaska countryside his home for hunting. Throughout his life he would usually be found with a dog at his side and remained a loving master to the end. Whether listening to his favorite music, playing his guitar, riding up the mountain in his pickup truck or watching an Alaska sunset, Larry was a kind and loyal soul with a quiet compassion for the many friends he gathered along life’s trail. He asked little of others and tried to give much of himself. Larry’s last years were spent caring for and sharing his life with his special companion, Charlotte Elvsaas.

The family wrote, “Larry’s wry sense of humor, easy smile and generous spirit will be greatly missed by his grieving family and friends. Our lives will never be the same without you, Larry but we were so blessed to have been able to share life and love with you. Thanks for the great memories.”

Larry was preceded in death by his companion, Charlotte Elvsaas; father, Warren Stanley and many aunts and uncles. He is survived by his mother and step-father, Clare and Don Wingfield of Stromsburg, Neb.; brothers and sisters in-law, Bill and Linda Stanley of Tukwila, Wash., and Dean and Pat Wingfield of Seattle, Wash; brother, Ron Wingfield of Renton, Wash.; sister and brother in-law, Linda and Frank Jamali of Santa Barbara, Calif.; sisters, Laurie Stanley (Larry’s twin) of Seattle and Donna Wingfield of San Leandro, Calif.; nephews, Mark Jamali of Santa Barbara, Calif. and Todd Stanley of Los Angeles, Calif.; niece and nephew in-law, Melissa Stanley and Rob McMonigle of Kent, Wash.; great nephews, Connor and Riley McMonigle of Kent, Wash.; and his extended Seldovian family, Renee and Scott Haller, Timothy and Frankie Haller; and numerous great friends.

Arrangements were by the Homer Funeral Home.
