The Fresh Sourdough Express Bakery & Cafe plans to stay open all winter, according to owner Donna Maltz.
The staff at the bakery will handle business through the colder months, keeping Sourdough open year-round for the first time since 1992.
The bakery will be open from 8a.m. to 3p.m. daily with breakfast served all day. Catering and take-out services also will be available.
Kathy's Salon has moved operations to David Lee Street, near North Fork Road in Anchor Point. The hair salon is owned by Kathy Gardner, who had been operating in Homer since 1995. At one time, she operated the business out of the yellow house next to the Pratt Museum.
Gardner, who is recovering from an injury, said she moved to Anchor Point so that she could work from home.
"I'm recouping -- I had to give up my business and start over," she said.
Her list of clients in Homer was probably about 300 people long, and already 80 have begun making the trip up to her new business location. The move is only physical, she said -- not much else has changed.
"I've always had to have my operation in a homey, private setting where I've tried to have one-on-one service," she said.
Kathy's new location is 32845 David Lee St. She is open Wednesday through Saturday by appointment and can be reached at 235-7552.
The Kachemak Heritage Land Trust is celebrating its 15th birthday by hosting the Homer Chamber of Commerce Mixer on Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The mixer will be held at the Poopdeck Cabin, the land trust's new home, and will feature refreshments, a facilities tour and networking opportunities.
The mixer is free and open to chamber members and guests. The chamber can be reached at 235-7740.
