Gretchen Sagan said she asks in her exhibit of prints and sculptures. "Scratch Game explores the spectrum of emotion that is created just before a simple movement uncovers what was hidden," she writes in her artist's statement. "The games offer varying prizes and come in a variety of sizes and shapes. These revealing moments can be victorious or disappointing, but to win one must take the risk, and as with personal relationships, the discovery can be rewarding or come to nothing." Pioneer Ave. Winter Comfort, quilts by Pam Newton 5-7 p.m., First Friday Reception 7-7:30 p.m., Alaska Arts Education Association Reception Pam Newton, a teacher and mother of two, has been quilting for 20 years. Quilting became her favorite past time when she was at home raising her children. Her quilting was inspired by her mother, Helen Newton, and many of her quilts have been collaborations with her mother and sister. "My quilts are always full of color, probably due to the fact that winter is my favorite time to quilt," she writes in her artist's statement. "It is a substitute for lack of color in the season." At 7 p.m. HCOA holds a reception for Alaska art teachers attending the Alaska Arts Education Association conference. Picture Alaska 448 E. Anchorage artist Mary Hertert shows her hand dyed crepe de chine silk garments. Girdwood potter and batik artist shows her hand-thrown "crack pots." Anchorage artist Sheary Clough Suiter shows figurative encaustic paintings. Wasilla artist Jeanne Young shows oil paintings of scenes from Homer cafes. Pratt Museum 3779 Bartlett Street Ritz Art Preview, works by various artists 5-7 p.m., First Friday Reception Artwork is shown that will be auctioned at the Pratt Museum's 24th annual Ritz Art and Adventure Auction fundraiser, to be held Nov. 7. Ptarmigan Arts Back Room Gallery 471 E. Pioneer Ave. Recycled and Found Object Art, works by various artists 5-7 p.m., First Friday Reception Local artists use locally found or naturally created objects to create unique art. The type of art includes two dimensional wall pieces, free standing sculptures, hanging mobiles, and jewelry and fiber/wearable art. Media includes driftwood, glass floats, old bike parts, clothing and a toilet lid. This show opened last month, but there is another reception for Friday. Two Sisters Bakery 233 E.
