“We got a call at 7:30 this morning from the principal and we intercepted the 11-year-old on his way to school this morning,” Greg Wilkinson, information officer for the Alaska State Troopers, said Tuesday. “As it turned out, (the student) doesn’t have access to a weapon. It was just one of those things that you say in anger. Everybody did the right thing and took him seriously.”
The student was arrested for second degree terroristic threatening and taken to the Kenai Juvenile Detention Center without bail pending evaluation, according to information from the troopers.
Ninilchik School Principal Terry Martin also advised the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District administration of the situation, said Glen Szymoniak, district assistant superintendent.
“The troopers intervened and that student wasn’t allowed in school. The incident is being investigated by state troopers and there will also be an investigation by the school district,” Szymoniak said Tuesday.
Troopers want to stress the seriousness of threats, according to Wilkinson.
“We appreciate kids telling their parents, telling their teachers if they hear of this type of threat,” Wilkinson said.
“We’re going to follow up (on threats) and take them very seriously.”
