Dutch Boy Landscaping, a local holiday and event decorator, recently was awarded the Brightest Star Award at a company conference in Baltimore, Md.
"The Brightest Star Award is awarded annually to a franchise who commits themselves to the franchise system and achieves outstanding results," said Blake Smith, president of Christmas Decor Inc. "Dutch Boy Landscaping has truly earned this year's recognition."
Dutch Boy Landscaping is a franchise of the larger Christmas Decor Inc., which has operations in 47 states and Canada. Steve Veldstra, owner of both Dutch Boy Landscaping and the Homer branch of Christmas Decor, runs the lighting operation during the holiday season. "We're kind of lighting up the town for the winter," said Veldstra. "We've been doing it since 1997."
The company offers outdoor lighting and designing for homes and businesses and will set up, take down and offer storage services, he said.
Dr. Jeff Callahan will open Callahan Chiropractic in Homer in late October. Callahan holds a doctor of chiropractic degree and a doctorate in psychology.
According to Callahan, lasting emotional stress remains an unexcavated threat to patients' lasting physical recovery. "Stress and anxiety wrecks havoc on every system in the body," said Callahan. "We are not replacing one kind of pills with another, or hocus pocus, the approach is sensible and effective for most chronic and difficult cases."
Callahan Chiropractic, which will be located near the boat yard on Kachemak Drive, will be open Monday through Friday from 3 to 7 p.m.
