Off the blotter

Staff Writer

Homer Police arrested Andrey Martushev, 37, for third-degree criminal mischief, a felony, and resisting arrest on Oct. 5 after a Homer woman reported Martushev threw a beer bottle at her vehicles. According to the criminal complaint, police allege Martushev went to the woman's home looking for her husband. When she told him her husband was not at home, she said he threw a green object at her vehicles.

Two police officers investigated and saw broken glass from a Mickey's beer bottle in the area and damage in excess of $500 done to the windows of a sport utility vehicle and a truck. When police attempted to arrest Martushev, the complaint alleges he did not comply with police orders to remove his hands from his jacket, turned away from the officers and started to walk away.

Police said they restrained Martushev and he resisted being handcuffed and being led to a patrol car. While he was in the patrol car, police allege Martushev kicked the window and door and bent the door frame. Police also charged him with fourth-degree criminal mischief.

A Port Graham man at 1:15 a.m. on Oct. 3 reported to Alaska State Troopers that his girlfriend came to his home and assaulted him. Troopers responded. In court documents, troopers allege that Sherry Glahn, 41, went to her boyfriend's home. Both had been drinking alcohol, and when the boyfriend made a comment that she needed to stop drinking, troopers allege she became angry and hit him with her fists on his face and arms. He told troopers he never had to block so many punches in his life. Troopers allege Glahn also bit the man and put her hands around his neck. She then left, but returned later looking for her belongings and in the process broke three of the man's vinyl records with an estimated value of $30, troopers said.

In court documents, troopers said Glahn told them she fought with her boyfriend after they argued and hit and bit him because he would not let her leave. She also said she believed he hit her in the face. Troopers said they saw bite marks and bruises on the man's left and right biceps and scratches on his left wrist and red marks on his right cheek. Troopers said they did not see any injuries on Glahn. They arrested her for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence, and fifth-degree criminal mischief.

An anonymous caller at 10:49 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, reported a juvenile party at a home on East Skyline Drive near Scenic Place. Police responded and contacted the occupants. Lt. Randy Rosencrans said the occupants locked the door and refused to let police enter. Police waited for three hours for the occupants to come out and allow them entry. Seventeen juvenile suspects were contacted. Police found two kegs of beer and held the kegs for safe keeping. Police attempted to contact the parents of all the suspects, and the suspects were either taken home by their parents or a sober driver. The license numbers of 12 vehicles parked on Skyline Drive were recorded, and two vehicles were towed when police could not locate the registered owners. Police contacted the owner of the home and informed the owner that a small marijuana plant was found in the home and confiscated.

On Oct. 4 at about 3 a.m. troopers went to a single-vehicle accident at about Mile 2.5 Skyline Drive near Woodman Drive in Homer. Troopers allege a 19-year-old man, Jared Hamphill, was driving a 1988 Chevrolet Suburban west on Skyline Drive when he entered the ditch and hit a tree on the south side of the road. Hamphill was injured and taken to South Peninsula Hospital. He was the only occupant of the Suburban, which sustained major damage. Troopers said they believe alcohol was a major contributing factor in the crash. Trooper investigation continues.

An unknown man on Oct. 3 reported he found a 4-wheel ATV with an HEA sticker on Bishop's Beach and drove it to a local bar, where he left it. Police recovered the ATV and by checking the serial number through the Alaska Public Safety Information Network determined it was one of two ATVs reported stolen from an HEA yard on Lake Street on Sept. 27. The other ATV remains missing.

Troopers on Oct. 3 at about 3 p.m. went to a single-vehicle accident at Mile 123 Sterling Highway near Ninilchik.

Troopers allege a tire fell off a turquoise semi-tractor trailer pulling a low-boy trailer and hit a 2002 Toyota pickup driven by a 50-year-old Ninilchik man. The accident caused $20,000 in damages to the man's truck, but did not injure him. Troopers have asked the driver of the semi-tractor trailer to contact them at 235-8239.
