Homer Council on the Arts is:
n Selling “Trippin’ on the Arts” raffle tickets for $30 each, two for $50. Winner chooses New York or Laguna Beach as a destination for two round-trip airfares, three nights of hotel accommodations, tickets to a performance and spending money. Winner of this HCOA fund-raiser will be announced at the Nutcracker Faire Dec. 2-3.
• Calling for artist proposals for the 2007-2008 season. Bring proposals and samples of work to the council to be viewed by the visual arts committee.
• Accepting submissions for “Doornamentation,” the November gallery show featuring wreaths or swags no bigger than 30-inches in diameter and ready to hang. Deadline is Nov. 1. For more information, call 235-4288.
Entertainers return to Homer
The “Continentals,” an evangelical group of adult musicians, will perform “Committed…to the Call,” a high-energy, high-impact, evangelical program for audiences of all ages and backgrounds at Christian Community Church 7 p.m. Oct. 26.
Stranded artist grants available
Limited $2,000 individual artist grants are available to working artists in the Homer area. To qualify, applicants need to write a statement describing their creative work and how the grant will further their artistic endeavors. Special consideration will be given to those working to enhance the sustainable cultural community in Homer. Do not send portfolios, manuscripts, tapes or photographs. Grants are based on artists’ statements. Deadline to apply is Nov. 20. Send artistic statements to Stranded Art Fund, Box 1218, Homer, AK 99603. Awards will be announced Dec. 21 in the Homer News.
Artist applications available
Artists In Schools Program is looking for professional teaching artists in visual, literary, traditional Native and performing art forms with a desire to share their skills with Alaska students and teachers. State writer laureate announced
Sitka writer John Hartley Straley has been selected as the new Alaska State Writer Laureate by the Alaska State Council on the Arts. He was chosen by an eight-member panel including Lance Petersen of Homer.
